Mathematics Teacher

Growing up as one of six children, my siblings and I would constantly play school at home. I was always eager to take the lead as the mathematics teacher from as young as first grade. Reteaching my siblings any concept I learned in school that day excited me. This was the start of my acknowledgement that I wanted to go into the education career path for mathematics.

My motivation for entering the education profession stemmed from a personal mission to demonstrate to my nephews, whom I had the privilege of helping care for throughout my high school and college career, and other children that being first-generation college students that hailing from a low to medium-income city should not hinder their potential for success. While teaching, I take immense pleasure in showcasing the diverse array of future career possibilities that students can aspire to, irrespective of their family or environmental backgrounds.

My approach to education centers on recognizing all students as individuals first, prioritizing empathy and compassion in my interactions with them. I aim to always provide them with an environment where students feel at ease posing and responding to questions, as well as freely expressing themselves. I have worked towards creating a safe and welcoming classroom setting, which has catered to my students' different needs.

Elizabeth is widely recognized as an urban school district characterized by a significant minority population. In this dynamic educational environment, I am dedicated to guiding my students to surpass conventional expectations by setting ambitious standards for each of them. Specifically focused on the STEM field, my objective as an educator is to instill an appreciation for the intrinsic beauty of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By focusing on the aspects of STEM, I aim to motivate and inspire my students to explore diverse branches within the realm of STEM education.

School Counselor

I chose school counseling as a profession after interning in the school system and as a probation officer in West Virginia. I witnessed firsthand the challenges that youth faced and recognized the importance of early interventions and support systems. Ever since then I have worked to promote inclusive and individualized prevention-based programs.

My work responsibilities include overseeing student's success by providing academic and personal counseling for course selection and college and career planning. In addition, I coordinate resources for students, facilitate conflict resolution, and collaborate with teachers and families to support student success.
