Social Studies Teacher

The biggest factors that influenced me to choose a career in education are having the opportunity and privilege to interact with high school students and to hopefully have a positive impact on their lives and to provide useful guidance for their futures.

Teaching with passion requires significant mental and physical discipline and energy which I try to bring to the classroom daily. In addition, I create a safe environment where students can learn and explore ideas and concepts not only about the subject content but about life's challenges. Finally, I treat each student as an individual and demonstrate respect towards their unique nature.

Ms. Tara Johnson

School Counselor

As I grew up, I knew in my heart that I wanted to work with children. After earning my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I knew I had to continue to graduate school. I decided to pursue a career in school counseling to engage with students in the areas of academic success, career development, and personal/social well-being. Having worked as a full-time substitute teacher for two years, I realized my desire to support students in varied capacities, including their emotional well-being, academic success, and overall development. I am very passionate about education and helping students navigate challenges. Helping students overcome obstacles can empower them to reach their full potential and contribute positively to the world around them.

Some of my worksite responsibilities consist of Academic Guidance, Career Counseling, Personal and Social Support, Crisis Intervention, Individual and Group Counseling, Educational Planning, and Collaboration with Parents & Teachers. What sets me apart as an outstanding school counselor is my proficiency in problem-solving when challenges arise, coupled with the ability to display empathy, compassion, and strong leadership skills. I’ve made a direct impact on student success in my school by consistently encouraging students to give their best effort. Additionally, I initiated an after-school program named “Empowered for Greatness” specifically for 9th grade girls to learn new conflict resolution skills, develop self-confidence, become more aware of others’ views and feelings, and better understand how to deal with problems that life as a young lady presents.
