Bilingual In-Class Support Teacher
The biggest factor that influenced me to choose education as a profession is my mother, Rosa Edreira Fidalgo, a proud retired team member of the Elizabeth Public Schools for over 30 years. My mother instilled in me a love of learning and a desire to help others achieve success. I remember sitting with her in her college classes as a child and being inspired by her dedication and commitment to constant growth. I knew that I wanted to follow the path that she laid for me.
My personal feelings and beliefs about teaching are that every student can succeed and a great teacher believes in the potential of all students, regardless of background or learning style. Teaching is more than academics, it’s about building confidence, critical thinking, and lifelong skills. Learning should be engaging, the best teachers make learning interactive, relevant, and fun. Finally, equity in education matters, every student deserves access to quality education and opportunities that will help them become successful contributing members of society. I look forward to continuing my career as a team member of the Elizabeth Public Schools.

Social Worker
I chose to pursue School Social Work because I am deeply passionate about advocating for students' mental health and learning needs. Growing up, I witnessed the challenges many students face, particularly when it comes to emotional and social struggles. This sparked my desire to support young people in overcoming those barriers. As a School Social Worker, I have the opportunity to be a strong advocate for students, ensuring they receive the resources and support necessary for their success.
Additionally, I am committed to educating families and creating an inclusive school community where every child feels valued and supported. One of the most rewarding aspects of this profession is being able to witness students' growth, not just academically, but also in terms of their confidence and well-being. Helping students navigate challenges and reach their full potential is both inspiring and fulfilling. By empowering both students and families, I can contribute to fostering an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. Ultimately, this role allows me to combine my passion for mental health advocacy with my desire to make tangible differences in the lives of students and the broader school community.
As a School Social Worker, my primary responsibilities include providing counseling services to students, advocating for mental health support, and addressing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that may affect their academic success. I work closely with teachers, administrators, and families to create individualized support plans for students. I also facilitate group sessions to promote social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution. Additionally, I collaborate with community resources to ensure students have access to necessary services outside of school.
What sets me apart in this role is my ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff. I create a safe space for students to express their concerns, and my empathetic approach helps them feel supported. I am deeply committed to the well-being of the students in our community. I put my full effort to support their unique needs, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and valued. My goal is to create an environment where every student receives the guidance and resources necessary to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially.
